Snowy Serra de Estrelas

The Serra de Estrela mountain is stunning but nevermore so than when it’s covered in snow. Mainland Portugal’s highest mountain, at 1,993 metres, it can be seen from all over the Castelo Branco region. We suddenly turn a corner and there it is, in all of it’s snowy glory.
In cold weather, the Serra da Estrela is the only place in Portugal where you can ski, snowboard, sledge or even ride on a snowmobile. We visited the natural park and played in the snow during our first stay in Portugal, two years ago. Although we haven’t yet made the one and a half hour drive to the snow, we are able to marvel at the mountain from afar. What a fantastic view!

Hi Andrea, I do enjoy a view of a snow-capped mountain too, I get quite excited about it. There’s something very Pinewood Studioesque about it. I’m sure it looks better from afar and isn’t half so cold either.

I’ve learned something, I didn’t know Portugal had any mountains that were so high! An amazing landscape shot this. Great work. #mysundayphoto
That’s an amazing photo! It looks much further than an hour away. Hope you get to go and visit before the snow goes. #MySundayPhoto
