Medieval Games and Fiesta in Eljas, Spain

It has been way too long since we visited Spain but when we live so close to the border then it is definitely worth the short trip back to España for a Fiesta.
Not to be outdone by the countless medieval festas here in the Castelo Branco region of Portugal, our nearest Spanish village puts on their own yearly celebration of the Middle Ages. The plaza in the village of Eljas is decorated and filled with snake charmers, medieval musicians, falconry displays, belly dancers and sword fighting fun. Eljas was tiny so the fiesta was a small celebration, but it is rarely quiet in Spain and the narrow streets were bustling with sound and energy.
We managed to arrive at the right time for the boys to join in with some of the street games. Whether or not they were authentically medieval is another question but the boy’s imaginations were stirred up and they loved trying to hit the targets in the traditional games.

Hi Andrea, it’s almost as if you live in another time. The fiestas you visit look like so much fun and must be so interesting for you and the boys. I love the way they are kitted out perfectly to join in too.

The dressing up is so cool, I think my boys would love that. Do you go find the festivals or is there just a lot happening where you are?
